The Simplest Way To Discover Your Hidden Innate Talent

Psychologists have always debated if talent is innate or acquired.
Talent is a peculiar and unique resource of a person; as such, we all have one, even if we think we don’t have any… Talent is that natural ability to do a particular activity; a combination of energies, attitudes and skills that you can use to achieve your goals if nurtured in the proper context. Therefore, we can rightfully say “innate talent”.
Think about chefs or sports champions or artists who move towards their goals from a very young age.
We all have a talent, but we are not always aware of it and do not manage to get the right motivation to turn it into a valuable skill in our work and ultimately in our lives. Often, in working contexts, we do not use these personal resources, which means we do not activate our potential.
Only constant commitment and application to specific activities with energy and determination can turn an inclination into a talent. Contrary to what many people think, therefore, talent is not a resource available to a few, but an asset for each of us: it means discovering the true essence of ourselves.
Talents are hidden treasures, and very often you don’t realise this for a lifetime because you can’t express it. Why is that? Because the environmental context in which you live heavily influences you, much more than you think.
Society in general and your working environment in particular, often undermine your self-confidence. Don’t you sometimes feel judged, pointed at, or considered not good enough just because you don’t conform perfectly to the rules that others dictate?
Innate Talent: A Journey Within Yourself.
Self-confidence is an essential element in discovering and expressing inner resources. It is not necessary to have specialised knowledge or experience but to have self-respect and positive thinking. But it is not so easy to achieve these two elements… I know.
Not only the external environment dictates you, but you do it yourself, and you are much more potent than any society or work/personal context. We often consider ourselves inadequate, how many times have you said to yourself “I am not enough”? It is not easy to get out of that conditioning, but the only way to get out of it is to go into yourself, to search for your true nature.
You have to start freeing yourself from false beliefs, feelings of self-sabotage, and you have to stop self-limiting yourself because you think you are not capable.
Despite fears and resistance, you have to start a journey within yourself, and you will be surprised at how many things you can discover, even in a short time. You will find the “peculiarity”, that characteristic that makes you stand out from others and allows you to do things uniquely and spontaneously.
During this self-discovery journey, accept all the opportunities that come your way to do new activities or new experiences. It takes a good dose of courage to get involved and open your mind to new possibilities. But during this “experimenting” you will certainly be able to identify your potential. Then you will be able to develop it, and why not perhaps turn it into personal and professional skills?
How many people (how many women, in particular) have realised that they are good at something and have gradually turned their lives completely upside down? Some have realised they are good cooks, for example, and have become famous YouTubers as chefs or cake designers within a few years. Or some people realised they could take beautiful photos and became a renowned photographer. Or make-up artists, stylists, or influencers. The examples are endless.
Do you think these people are just so damn lucky?
No, in my opinion, luck does not even exist. These people have realised they have a talent, passion, or gift (they are all synonyms) and decided to express it.
For some, it is evident; others have to look for it first and then manifest it. They start by going inside and discovering their nature. And this means trusting oneself and freeing oneself from social, work, and personal conditioning.
Then, you see that talent is not just a matter of innate gifts, an inclination that makes us ‘naturally’ good at something, but it is an energy that must be relentlessly found and exercised—every day.
“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.” Zig Ziglar
Ten Questions To Find Your Hidden Talent
Your innate talent is hidden there somewhere, and you should ask yourself a few questions to find it. To discover it, you don’t necessarily have to think about a passion. But you can, for example, ask yourself these questions:
- What did you like to do as a child?
- What comes/used to come naturally to you?
- What did you do when you finished everything you had to do?
- What is it that when you do it, you are at your best?
- What is it that, while doing it, you learn from yourself?
- What is it that you do in your way?
- What is it that you would do just for the sake of doing it?
- What is it that, while you are doing it, time seems to distort and an hour passes in a minute?
- What is it that when you have finished doing it… you have more energy than before?
- What do you do well?
As you can see, you have to rediscover who you are and what you want; and then start to take action to increase your self-esteem and self-confidence and thus bring out your talent.
That’s what happened to me. I discovered at the age of 45 that what I had built my whole life was responding to other people’s desires and needs, not my own. I felt trapped and was dissatisfied until I started the fateful journey into myself, and realized many things.
The first feeling is that of an incredible sense of liberation. Freedom from social conditioning; freedom from a working environment that I didn’t like; and freedom from myself, or rather from my idea of not being capable.
On this path, I embraced my nature, created a blog, even a YouTube channel, and started my own online business, enhancing my actual inclination. In a nutshell, I began to take action.
The first step to regaining self-confidence (and finding your talent) is in fact to take action. Set a goal and take the necessary actions to achieve it. This is why you have to stop procrastinating. Postponing these “actions” is like continuing to break the promises we make to ourselves. What happens when you don’t keep a promise? Others no longer trust you. And neither you trust yourself.
To take action, you first have to face fear. Don’t see your fears as limitations, rather see them as opportunities. Every fear you meet is an opportunity to move forward on your path. Every time you face and overcome a fear, you break a bar in the cage in which you have imprisoned yourself.
To overcome your fears, you have to accept failure. But failing is part of your success, so consider failures humiliating or even as confirmation that you are not capable. Instead, see it as a motivation to move forward and proof that you have already come a long way: you have taken action, faced fears, and are willing to move on.
